The River
Many anglers know that the river Traful is one of the exceptional rivers of Argentina, because of its above average sized trout and amazing landscape. Crosses two famous Estancias, Arroyo Verde and La Primavera. While La Primavera is not available to anglers, Arroyo Verde offers space for 10 rods through the whole season allowing access to one side of the river for almost its entirety.
This typical mountain river of crystal clear water varying in width from 60 to 90 feet with rapids and pools throughout its 10 miles, course is home to rainbow and brown trout and land-locked salmon..

Trophies are not uncommon on the Traful, and expert nymph fishermen find it to be an angling paradise. Mid season anglers will love the prolific hatches and high technical dry fly fishing. Unlike many of the easily waded prolific fisheries of Argentina, Arroyo Verde is definitely tailored to the angler that predicates his trip on trophies, not numbers of fish.
The Traful river is not to be considered an easy river. It is a river that holds the opportunity to catch some enormous fish, as well as some standard size trout. The river holds good numbers of rainbows, browns, and landlocked Atlantic salmon , season after season Traful continues surprising with their catches.
The Fishing
The Traful river is one of only five rivers in the world renowned for land locked salmon, which were first introduced into North-western Patagonia from Lake Sebago in Maine, starting in 1904.
This river offers fishing for some truly big fish. Sight casting to large rising rainbows occupies much of the day, and streamer fishing for Browns trouts is very effective in the falling light.
Our guest fishermen describe the Traful by the size of its catches, the average being 2 to 3 pounds, although every season several fish over 10 pounds are caught, and it is usual to take several in the range of 4 to 6 pounds. The lodge records include a 17 lb brown, an 18 lb salmon, and a 23 lb rainbow. Any angler should expect challenging fishing for larger trout, with the occasional hatch to bring up the fish.
