Tipiliuke Lodge

Tipiliuke is a special place at the foot of the Andes mountain range, in the middle of Andean Patagonia just a few kilometres from the city of San Martín de los Andes and from Chapelco airport. Tipiliuke forms part of more than 20,000 hectares Cerro de los Pinos country estate, established in 1909 by the grandfather of the current owners, and has been raising cattle since its begining and this continues as its main activity.

Tipiliuke Lodge is one of the premier hosterias in Argentina and is a favorite among trout fisherman staying in Patagonia.

The Lodge

Located near the main estancia area, the lodge is a traditional stone-constructed house with wood paneled interior and features nine double bedrooms, each with private bathroom as well as a dining room and wood-beamed sitting room and bar. You can enjoy the sauna in the house.

Refined local dishes prepared with ingredients grown in the lodge´s kitchen garden and accompanied by high quality Argentinian wines. Typical menues include: smoked venison, trout, roast meat, vegetables and fruit grown on the estate.

The River

The Chimehuin River is considered the most famous of all Patagonia rivers.
While all 50-miles of the Chimehuin, from it's origin at Huechulafquen Lake until it joins the Collon Cura river, offers good fishing, the best sections to fish are the private access water of Tipiliuke Lodge on the Estancia Cerro de los Pinos, especially with dry flies.
The Chimehuin with its major tributary, the Quilquihue, create more than 13-miles of private access to magnificent trout water that flows through Tipiliuke's property.

The Chimehuin has an amazing variety of structures, meanders through the valley and its side channels also present wonderful angling opportunities.

After the government approval, Tipiliuke lodge was awarded with the first authorization in the province to build a spring creek. It was inaugurated in November 2005 and promises to add an extra amenity to the world class fishing at Tipiliuke.

The Fishing

Access to the best stretches of Chimehuin is easy. Most of them are less than 15 minutes, using internal private roads.

Depending of different times of the season, the Chimehuin offer a complete variety of different types of fishing, from big dry flies and weighted streamers to tiny emergers, nymphs and spinners.
And now talking about trouts, wild Brown and Rainbow Trout averaging 16 - 20 inches with fish in the 21 - 24 inch range being common. There are trophy trout available, up to 30 inches, that can be specifically targeted with streamers or large attractor style dries.
Remember, the surprise will be waiting forever!
