Usually called Hexagenia, to be associated with the northern hemisphere species, the Chiloporter eatoni is our hexagenia.
With smaller hatching but not so unattractive, provide spectacular activity until dusk. Typically hatches in Northern Patagonia from december to february.

Chiloporter eatoni

The genus Chiloporter is restricted to southern South America, specifically at northern Patagonia. The largest of May Flies adults are 0.7 to 1.0 inches in length. Their bodies are yellow or light tan; the underside is solid, but the flanks and occasionally the top, can have dark marks on the abdominal segments; wings are yellowish.

Would you like one?

If any of you have ever tried to pursue the Chiloporter or big yellow mayflies hatch, you know it is one of the most expected hatches to hit. Must be many factors to make it happen, speed and direction of wind, air and water temperatures, the list goes on. With 45 minutes left of day light and the flies right, the whole river explode with countless frenetic rises. Both perch and trout are attracted by the hatch, and this brings out the biggest fish! It is awesome!
Enjoy this experience in Chimehuin River, famous for the big yellow flies hatch.

Hungry perchThere are several effective flies for matching the Chiloporter dun such as Loco Hexagenia, Ext Body Drake; Anderson’s (Umpqua pattern); Hex Adult Nealley's; Hexagenia limbata Dun; Hex Foam Dun; Hex Hairwing Dun, and the old Langiwin ( remembered by many Frenchmen ) all tied at # 6.
